First prize winner of the 10th International Cello Competition “Antonio Janigro,” Ms. Sydney Lee made her orchestral debut at the age of fourteen with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. She was the 2nd prize winner of the Lennox International Young Artists Competition, and featured as soloist on National Public Radio’s "From the Top” in a national broadcast. Ms. Lee was named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars in 2015.
A student at Curtis Institute of Music, Ms. Lee joined “Curtis on Tour” and performed in cities across Asia, Europe, and the United States. As a musician dedicated to the community and global outreach, Ms. Lee was the lead cellist of the Heartstrings Cello Ensemble. She is also a board member and co-regional director for the Philadelphia region of the “Back to Bach Project,” a national initiative to inspire and encourage young school children to learn musical instruments and instill a love of music in them. Ms. Lee is the Emily W. Sunstein Annual Fellow at Curtis. Sydney Lee plays on a 1730 J. F. Guidantus cello on generous loan from The Curtis Institute of Music.
